The influnence of addition of Vanadium and Titanium microalloying elements on the corrosion resistance of heat treated and LASER surface treated Carbon steels in saturated Ca(OH)2 solution in addition to chloride ions addition has been investigated. Two heat treatment processes were implemented for the examined Carbon steel samples at 900°C and 1200°C, in addition to LASER surface hardening is also applied in order to illustrate/compare the effect of the LASER application on the steel making. Corrosion rates are calculated after heat treatment processes in saturated Calcium Hydroxide solution at pH 12 in presence of Sodium Chloride by using Optical microscope examination , weigth change , Potentiodynamic Polarization , X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) examination. The grain refinment and precipitation strengthening play an important role in an improvement of the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the investigated steels.
