Becoming a Clinical Educator i s a course is intended as basic introduction into the world of modern postgraduate medical education. The aim is to equip candidates to understand the principles and reasoning behind modern and proposed training and assessment methods, and to equip them to embark on a development pathway which will result in a career involving an important aspect as an educator and trainer.

Becoming a Clinical Educator provides students with the opportunity to learn more about and discuss the following topics:

  • theory of adult learning
  • evidence on value of different teaching methods
  • simulation in training; principles of valid assessment
  • resuscitative and supportive teaching
  • current syllabus and assessment for surgeons in training
  • organisation and regulation of UK surgical training
  • developing a syllabus for trainees in modern programmes

This intensive five-day course is taught at postgraduate-level and may be taken for credit or not for credit.
