BioPlastics: Las Vegas, Feb 1-3 2011

  • 01-04 Feb 2011
  • Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, NV, United States

Description

The Plastics Industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation as bioplastics primarily derived from renewable feedstocks continue to gain recognition in a market dominated by petroleum-based products. Bioplastics have already reached over one million tons capacity, with 2011 growth rates conservatively projected at 15-20%.

First generation plant sugar-/starch-based offerings targeted primarily single-use applications, advocating composting as a new disposal option, coupled with a lower carbon footprint than traditional plastics. The bioplastics market, based on renewable carbon is now refocusing on the more durable and potentially more demanding performance applications sector of the plastics landscape.

To meet this evolving challenge, the bioplastics industry must reshape to further enhance mechanical/thermal and overall performance and durability of existing bio-based products; either by the use of additives, blends and alloys or by the manufacture of new and existing building blocks (monomers) derived from non-oil-based sources. These approaches are heralding the vision of conventional plastics with known properties but no longer made from oil. Additionally new standards and regulations will be required to validate performance and claims.

Industry experts at BIOPLASTICS: RESHAPING AN INDUSTRY will cover the various facets of these dramatic developments. Presenters will include R&D, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Applications and Business Development leaders throughout the entire supply chain of the bioplastics industry.

This two-day conference will provide an introduction to the key players driving this transformation. It is targeted at decision makers
of all disciplines who wish to enhance their knowledge and participation in this evolving drive to reduce dependence on oil-based materials.
