The ISPD meetings selection committee has decided to hold the 2010 ISPD Meeting in Mexico City. The decision was certainly very difficult as bid proposals from very important PD societies and beautiful cities were also presented. It is a pleasure to see the Congress returning to the country of its very first meeting, held in Chapala, Jalisco in 1978.
On behalf of the Mexican community involved in PD patient care, including the Colegio de Nefr logos de M xico, the Instituto Mexicano de Investigaciones Nefrol gicas and the Asociaci n Nacional de Nefr logos de M xico (our three PD-related organizations), I would like to thank the ISPD for its generous and kind nomination. Mexico attracts attention due to its special position in the PD world. This is derived from the large number of CKD patients, mainly from a high prevalence of diabetic population, and the prominent penetration of PD as the dialysis modality of preference. I would like to believe that academic contribution has also had a role in the Congress nomination. The Mexican PD community welcomes ISPD to this country with strong roots in pre-Hispanic cultures, but with an eye to the future.
