This is an interactive, case-and evidence-based review for finishing and recent graduates of pediatric surgery fellowship programs.
At the conclusion of this course the participants will have
- Shared current expertise and training experiences with other finishing fellows
- Participated in a comprehensive review of the clinical and non-clinical knowledge
- base needed for beginning an independent practice in pediatric general surgery
- Identified areas of weakness that require further study
This course is not designed as a review for the American Board of Surgery examinations.
COURSE TOPICS The program will cover a broad range of clinical subjects including interactive discussions on management and surgical decision-making. Clinical topics include:
- Complex and controversial cases
- Thoracic surgery
- Neonatal surgery
- Gastrointestinal surgery
- Oncologic surgery
- Trauma and burns
- Pre- and postoperative care
Again this year will feature discussions of non-clinical subjects of interest to the beginning pediatric surgeons, including:
- Doing successful clinical research
- Mentoring
- Billing and coding
- Professional and career development
- Leadership skills
- Principles of adult education
- Risk management
- Evidence-based medicine
- Retirement planning
