This is an interactive, case-and evidence-based review for finishing and recent graduates of pediatric surgery fellowship programs.

At the conclusion of this course the participants will have
  • Shared current expertise and training experiences with other finishing fellows
  • Participated in a comprehensive review of the clinical and non-clinical knowledge
  • base needed for beginning an independent practice in pediatric general surgery
  • Identified areas of weakness that require further study

This course is not designed as a review for the American Board of Surgery examinations.

COURSE TOPICS
The program will cover a broad range of clinical subjects including interactive discussions on management and surgical decision-making. Clinical topics include:
  • Complex and controversial cases
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Neonatal surgery
  • Gastrointestinal surgery
  • Oncologic surgery
  • Trauma and burns
  • Pre- and postoperative care

Again this year will feature discussions of non-clinical subjects of interest to the beginning pediatric surgeons, including:
  • Doing successful clinical research
  • Mentoring
  • Billing and coding
  • Professional and career development
  • Leadership skills
  • Principles of adult education
  • Risk management
  • Evidence-based medicine
  • Retirement planning
