Leaders need a working knowledge of basic counseling and communication skills
Leaders need proficiency in making referrals to mental health counselors; i.e., be able to refer in a way that maximizes the likelihood that the individual will actually follow-through and seek the services that would benefit them personally and professionally
Leaders need the ability to communicate positively and proactively with employees, team members and other workers who may be experiencing stress, anxiety, and other related conditions
Leaders need to know how to effectively minimize the detrimental effects of workers who have exhibited counterproductive attitudes and behaviors on others in the organization
Leaders need to know how to effectively consult with mental health counselors in a way that complements and reinforces their collaborative roles in the helping process
