Description
The symposium focuses on three themes. The first theme is Sciences of Skating. Three experts in the field of training principles, physiology, sciences (optimal pacing strategies in competitive athletic performance) and sports medical aspects of skating will discuss these themes.
During the second morning session attention is focused on the scientific evidence of a number of non-operative treatment modalities, applicable to sports injuries. First, the diagnostic procedures and treatment options for trochanteric bursitis will be reviewed, resulting in a practical guideline. Second, the scientific background of core stability will be discussed, leading to clinically applicable advice. Finally, the practical use and feasibility of dry needling will be evaluated.
The afternoon session covers scientific and practical information regarding elite soccer. The physical demands on professional soccer players and the medical team are very high. The type of injuries, the role of artificial turf and the common hamstring injury in elite soccer will be discussed. The consequences of growing demands in elite soccer will be discussed from the point of view of a professional soccer club (Chelsea FC) and the Dutch national team.
