Description
A Mobile Internet Device (MID) is a multi-media-capable hand-held computer providing wireless Internet access. It provides entertainment, information and location-based services for personal use. For the purpose of this conference this class includes the mobile phone and the netbook. The design of these devices is a challenging proposition since there is a congruence of many technologies mobile telephony, multi-media technologies, wireless networking, and Internet connectivity. The design has to work within tight space and power constraints.
Many Companies have invested heavily in developing hardware platforms, including processors specifically designed for MIDs. Others have focused on the operating systems that will run on these platforms. As companies jostle for the coveted de facto standard status in this emerging device class, it is a good time to become aware of, study and understand the technologies involved as well the applications that are likely to roll out in the coming months.
The Conference will focus on the enabling technologies that have made the MID possible custom designed processors for MIDs, low power design, MID hardware platforms, operating systems for MID, wireless networking. The Conference will deliberate on the applications that will contribute towards making the MID user experience an entertaining, informative and enriching one. The objective of the Conference is to provide a platform for engineers, researchers and developers working on enabling technologies, both hardware and software and users to examine the design challenges, explore the application possibilities and exchange views on this new and exciting device class.
