Description
Affective and cognitive disturbances affect the majority of patients suffering from epilepsy. Nevertheless, they are frequently ignored and under-treated. The main topics of this congress will include the prevalence and diagnostic methods of depression, cognitive disturbances, psychic experiences and behavioural problems in persons with epilepsy (PWE). We shall focus on treatment options of those disturbances and the impact of antidepressants, neuroleptics and cognitive drugs on PWE, as well as to the impact of antiepileptic drugs (AED) on attention, cognition, mood and behaviour. The psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, the impact of neuromodulation and vagal nerve stimulation will be discussed as well as that of epilepsy and AED on the developing brain. The effects of drugs on sexual life and the treatment of sexual dysfunctions in PWE will be highlighted. Finally, the borderline between epileptology and philosophy, religion, art and history will open this congress also to non-specialists.
