REFORMING LABORATORY SERVICES 2011

  • 11-12 Apr 2011
  • Old Mill Toronto, Canada

Description

Numerous botched tests have decreased public confidence in the accuracy of medical testing. The efficiency of medical laboratories is being investigated and the challenges that are now faced are more taxing than ever. The ongoing human resources crisis coupled with the surge of upcoming retirements will leave laboratories understaffed and overworked. Although, advances in genetic testing and biomarkers will help streamline tests and the predictability of results, there are many issues that are yet to be resolved. The field of Pathology is growing in complexity and 80% of decisions made by doctors are conditional on Pathologists accurately interpreting tests.

In addition, it has been two years since the Cameron Inquiry found many problems in the Pathology system and recommendations have been made to ensure the integrity and accuracy of medical testing. With patient safety at the forefront, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada along with the Canadian Association of Pathologists have created a new national council, the Canadian Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Leadership Council. Their aim is to streamline and produce uniform standards across the country that will ensure fewer errors, increase accountability and produce high quality results.

This timely conference, produced by Insight Information, is designed to help you understand your responsibilities under the new standards. You will benefit from the expertise of practice leaders, including members of the newly formed Council and existing regulatory bodies, on key issues and challenges as well as the way forward.
