Bled: Bled is a town that sits on the banks of an emerald-coloured glacial lake. One of the most popular day trips in Slovenia, Lake Bled looks like it should be in a fairy tale — with its cliff-top castle, alpine backdrop and church marooned on a wooded island. Only 40 minutes away from the capital, Bled is not to be missed.
Piran: 90 minutes from Ljubljana is Piran, a picturesque harbour town with an Italian feel. Visit Tartini Square and enjoy the lavish neo-classical buildings that surround it. After a Mediterranean lunch in one of the cafés, take a stroll to the monastery and enjoy great views of the town. If culture appeals to you, don’t miss the Coastal Galleries and the Maritime Museum.
Škocjan Caves: Just under 80 kilometres from Ljubljana, the vast Škocjan Caves hold a special place in the hearts of Slovenians. Considered one of the world’s largest underground canyons, the halls, gorges, passageways, stalagmites and stalactites are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caves are open all year round for guided tours.
