Parc Astérix: A great day out for the whole family, Parc Astérix is just a 45-minute drive from central Paris. The theme park is home to 36 attractions, mostly designed for children — although there are three roller coasters for thrill-seekers. If you want a break from the rides, why not watch one of the fascinating shows; the park puts on several shows throughout the day (including a 20-minute dolphin and sea lion show).
Palace of Versailles: Also 45 minutes from Paris by car, the Palace of Versailles is well worth a visit. The royal château has many impressive features, including the Queen’s Hamlet, the breathtaking gardens and the ornate Hall of Mirrors. The site was originally Louis XIII’s hunting lodge, until his son Louis XIV expanded it and moved the court and government of France to Versailles in 1682. The château has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for 30 years, and is a magnificent feat of 18th-century French art.
Reims: Experience another beautiful French city and take a drive to Reims, just an hour and a half from Paris. Dominating Reims is the spectacular Gothic cathedral, one of the first monuments to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the place where the kings of France were crowned. The city is also famous for its fine dining opportunities, and is home to several Michelin-starred restaurants — making it a great day out for foodies.
