5th SIETAR India conference 2013

  • 02-03 Feb 2013
  • YB Chavan Centre, Mumbai, India

Description

The Society for Intercultural Education Training and Research (SIETAR)-India is a non-profit Association of educators, researchers and trainers from a wide range of practical and academic disciplines who share a common concern for intercultural relations. SIETAR-India provides an opportunity to learn from and share with colleagues in the intercultural arena and advance the body of knowledge and practice in the field.

The purpose of the SIETAR-India conference is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, techniques, strategies, theories, tools and creative expression useful to fostering effective intercultural relations and thus to develop ourselves as intercultural practitioners and the intercultural field. Professionals from any discipline that deals with intercultural issues and fields in which intercultural work is exercised and applied are encouraged to attend.

We all hope that our kids will have a better life than we have, but more and more people now doubt this will be true: climate change, exhaustion of critical natural resources, excessive pollution due to unchecked energy consumption, rise of intolerance, lack of food for a growing population, etc. The world needs a paradigm shift in the way we understand and manage these issues. As interculturalists we have a role to play in making this shift happen as these issues need to be tackled globally and we understand what can bring different people together. Most of us spend our time helping companies create sustainable cross border collaboration with commercial partners or within virtual projects teams. Others work at creating sustainable educational partnerships for the next generation of students to be more culturally aware of the different cultures they will be working with. How can we use this expertise to give the future generations a chance of living in a world that is at least as beautiful as the one we live in? This is what this conference offers to explore.
