In 1979 Portugal successfully organized the first International Symposium for Processed Tomatoes in Evora, which was the precursor for the many Tomato Congress s and Symposia which have since been held every two years in virtually all the continents of the Globe.
We now have the pleasure of inviting you, to the World Tomato Congress and ISHS Symposium which will take place in Estoril Portugal in June 2010.
In these intervening 30 years the World of Tomatoes has changed dramatically, yields per Hectare have grown nearly threefold, Global production doubled from 20 M tons to 40 M Tons.
Recent events raise the issue as to whether the models which have served us in the past will continue to do so in the future.
In an effort to look forward over the next 30 years we will over the congress sessions examine each of the commercial steps which takes place from Growing to final Consumption.
In a the days when we will meet we hope to have the opportunity to show you something of our beautiful country and to invite Speakers who will help us to promote discussions which will lead us to better understand this business in which we are actively involved and to further its sustained development.
